"Be Where You Are":

We also believe that an important part of this vision is God's call to embrace and build up our wider community and our neighbors. In Jeremiah 29:7, God commands his people: “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city…Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” This gives us an inspiring vision of the church coming together with the wider community to seek a common good.
In fact, since 1847, St. Peter Lutheran has had the privilege of joining hands with our neighbors in loving this place God has given us and seeking its good. Today, we are continuing this tradition in many ways. Each week we host Michiana Lifetree Cafe, an hour-long conversation cafe featuring original films or filmed interviews on practical life topics where all perspectives are welcome. Lifetree provides an opportunity to build community and support each other even as we learn a little something; we also have free childcare and refreshments. St. Peter is also seeking to support the two public elementary schools closest to the church, Emmons and Elm Road, along with Resurrection Lutheran Academy in northwestern South Bend.
At the same time, we are also eager to partner with our neighbors to uncover and address the other key unmet or under-served needs of our community. And so, we'd like to ask YOU: what ARE those key unmet or under-served needs? For instance, do we need more quality preschool in some specific part of the city? Or is there a particular way we could serve our working parents or our senior citizens better? We hope that you will share your ideas with us in the short survey below and then partner with us as we move forward to meet them, together.
We look forward to hearing from you, and may God’s peace be yours this day and always.
