Our Mission Statement
The mission of St. Peter Lutheran Church is to share a changeless Christ in a changing world
through a community engaged in Worship, Bible study, and Christian service.

Our Values and Practice: Life In Community with God and Each Other

Picture
Worship - We rejoice in God's grace and experience renewal through Word and Sacrament.  The large cross in our sanctuary, with its long reaching arms that span the worship space, is a constant reminder that ALL people are gathered by the cross into the life of Jesus.

Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his
love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever.
Praise the Lord. – Psalm 117: 1-2

Bible Study - We grow in relationship to God through his Word, small group studies and the community of believers at St. Peter gathered in the study of God’s Word.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. – Psalm 119: 105

Christian Service - We respond to God’s love through our service and witness in the church, community and world.  We are called to live, not comfortably, but usefully, to the glory of God in service of others in all we do in our daily life.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,
since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.
It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” –Colossians 3:23-24

Our Identity: An Outwardly-Focused, Teaching Church

At St. Peter, we love to be gathered into community with God and each other, but we are just as strongly focused on love of our neighbors.  From Scripture, we learn that this means sharing our faith, calling all to discipleship to Christ, and caring spiritually and physically for everyone we meet (Matthew 28:18-20; Colossians 3:12-14).  But it also means "seeking the good of the City" into which God has placed us (Jeremiah 29:7) and striving for justice and peace in all the earth (Amos 5:24, Micah 6:8, 1 Tim 2:1-4).  We are called to be outwardly-focused.

We also recognize that God forms and redeems us as His creatures through a Word that reaches to the very core of our being (Genesis 1, John 1).  He calls us--as one Body living with and for our neighbors--to enter ever more deeply into this Word and to press on to maturity in faith and life (1 Cor 14:20, Philippians 3:12-16).  Therefore, we strive likewise to be a teaching church that calls all people to go deep into the Word of God and live it fully.

These aspects of our identity are exemplified in our decision to call a second pastor to focus on "outreach and teaching," in the many ways we are actively involved in supporting our immediate neighborhood and wider community, and in a focus on deep teaching and preaching of God's word toward the transformation of our lives and world.  Explore more by clicking the Community Outreach tab on our main menu or by attending any of the many opportunities for community-building and teaching highlighted throughout this site.

A "Little-Big" Church

With an average worship attendance of 140, St. Peter combines the best of smaller and larger congregations.  On the one hand, we have the critical mass necessary to support vibrant music, youth, educational, and outreach ministries.  Yet on the other, we are small enough to feel like one inter-generational family.
